Copper Commodity ETFs
Commodity type copper ETFs basically track the price of copper.
Unlike other commodity ETFs (e.g. gold ETFs), some of which actually hold the physical assets, commodity copper ETFs do not own copper.
Instead these physically-backed copper ETFs (or copper ETNs) follow a copper index tracking copper futures contracts.
Copper Miners ETFs
Another type of copper ETF is a copper miners ETF which is an equity-based ETF.
These equity-based copper ETFs invest in companies that are in the business of exploring, developing, and producing copper. They get exposure to the copper industry by tracking indices of copper-mining companies. As an example, the Global X Copper Miners ETF (CPOX), launched in April 2010, was the first ETF that offered a pure play exposure to copper by tracking the Solactive Global Copper Miners Index.
